Tim Russert

Tim Russert passed away on Friday. He was a great host for Meet the Press. He asked the tough follow-up questions that you wanted to ask the politicians. But yet, judging from what many of his colleagues have said, he was one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet.

Global Warming Strikes Again: Tuna and Light Bulbs

We know that compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) are dangerous. Now, businesses might be held liable. But the businesses are not the ones forcing us to switch to CFLs in time for the London Olympics. The part about tuna--then and now--is pretty illuminating of the whole CFL story. Or just about any environmental issue, really.

Uno

A beagle named Uno won the Westminster dog show. He's the first beagle to ever win that show. Looks like he is the Knut of dogs right now. Or maybe a real-life Snoopy.

A Little Politics: Rock Star

There's one politician that everyone has been calling a rock star, lately. Shockingly, here's the evidence to back up that claim.

A Little Politics: Checkmate 2008

Charles Hurt perfectly describes the checkmate by Democrats in the 2008 presidential election.

Hollywood Hurting: SNL @ Oracle OpenWorld

When I watched Sunday Night Live--the Keynote with Larry Ellison from Oracle OpenWorld 2007--I thought it was interesting that they had current and former cast members of Saturday Night Live. Typical corporate event for famous people, I suppose. Kevin Nealon did a good job, considering the nature of the material. Victoria Jackson was great, too.

But now I read about the writer's strike affecting SNL, and how they just fired a large portion of their production staff. Don't know how this affects the actors, but it can't be good for them, either. Good thing some (one?) of them got a few extra Hamiltons to help them get through this season.

And don't forget: Tom Kite is a great professional golfer, but Tom Kyte is also a great professional Oracle employee.

A Little Politics: The More Things Change, The More They're Related?

Obama and Cheney are related. My question is: if they go hunting together, who gets non-fatally fragged?
